Washers fail loudly and messily. The good news is that the majority of washer calls resolve to a handful of causes, and most are same-visit repairs once the machine is properly diagnosed.
What we repair
- Won't drain / standing water in the drum — drain pump, a sock or coin caught in the pump filter, or a kinked or clogged drain hose.
- Won't spin, or clothes come out soaking — lid switch or door lock, drive belt, motor coupler, or an out-of-balance fault the machine keeps retrying.
- Leaking — door boot torn at the bottom fold, pump seal, tub-to-pump hose, dispenser overflow or a split inlet hose.
- Walking across the floor during spin — shock absorbers, suspension rods, worn dampers or a machine that was never leveled.
- Loud grinding or roaring on spin — tub bearings. Worth pricing carefully; on a mid-range machine this is often the point where replacement wins.
- Won't fill, or fills forever — inlet valve, pressure switch, or a clogged air dome tube.
- Error codes and cycles that stop partway — control board, door lock, or a wiring fault.
- Smells musty — biofilm in the boot and dispenser, usually from too much detergent and a door kept shut.
Front-load vs top-load
Front-loaders are harder on door boots, drain pumps and bearings; top-loaders with direct-drive systems are harder on shifters, clutches and position sensors. High-efficiency top-loaders with an impeller instead of an agitator have their own pattern of failures around the shifter assembly. We diagnose by platform, not by guesswork.
Free five-minute check: most front-loaders have a small access door at the bottom front. Behind it is the drain pump filter. Put down a towel and a shallow pan, unscrew it, and clear it. If your machine wasn't draining and now does, you just saved a service call.

Washer Repair — questions we get asked
My washer won't drain. Can I fix that myself?
Often, yes. Clear the drain pump filter behind the small front access panel and check that the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe. If it still won't drain, the pump itself or the control has failed and needs service.
Is it worth replacing the bearings in a washing machine?
Depends on the machine. On a premium front-loader — Miele, Bosch, Speed Queen, a high-end LG or Samsung — a bearing job can make sense. On a mid-range machine that's 8+ years old, the labor usually approaches the cost of a new washer, and we'll say so.
Why does my front-loader smell?
Biofilm in the door boot, the dispenser drawer and the drain path, usually from too much detergent, cold washes and a door left shut. We clean the pump and boot as part of the repair and can show you how to keep it from coming back.
My washer is shaking violently on spin. Is that dangerous?
It can damage the machine and your floor, so don't keep running it. It's usually worn shock absorbers or suspension rods, a load that isn't distributing, or a machine sitting unlevel on an uneven laundry room floor.
